Per advice just received, I'm adding what I know about Skip (my dad): 71-72 Deputy Advisor, 11th Bat. Vietnamese Airborne Division. (The above is on his 'board' with 14 hand stitched patches) On his dd-214, it lists a Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device. I cannot find this award by google - what is it? Last duty assignment just says: HQ USAREUR & 7th Army, Germany/Hq Det Hoenfels(?) Tng Area, Germany.

Skip went into Army as a PFC & came out a Captain. In 1964 he transferred from the White House Communications Agency, was somewhere in Vietnam 68-72, Primary specialty number and title: 1542 - Inf Unit Commander.

In the event anyone does know of him, he passed away 2 April 07 from colon cancer. So, for those of you who refuse to have one - please go get your colons checked. Save your daughters the anguish of watching their hero's die.

Trish, I would take your Dad's DD-214 to a Vet Center for assistance.
Here is an address;
http://www2.va.gov/directory/guide/facility.asp?ID=403
You might also obtain help at most VFW's through their Service Officer's.
Hope this helps you.

I live in the Norfolk-Hampton area of Virginia and I am looking for retired or active duty members of the 173rd who may be able to enlighten me on my dad's dd-214 and where/what actions his awards came from. I know it's a long shot but I would really appreciate legitimate and quality information to pass on to my son. My father passed away 3 1/2 years ago. He was in Vietnam between 68-72.

Thank you.

I was with Bravo 1/503 from April '68 'til March '69. Would like to hear any news about Rod Caraway or Gary Faircloth. Would also be interested in any news about Lt. John Taylor. Last I heard he was in bad shape as a result of a chopper crash. Thanks guys. And thanks for the great message board.

Served as Plt Ldr w/ Quad 50s from E/41st Arty OPCON to 3/319th Arty summer to fall of 70 in LZ English AOR. My replacement and I are trying to remember the names of the various FSB, OP, and other support locations our Quads were at. The Dusters, Quads, Searchlights National Association is trying to accumulate historical information to share w/ the NDQS members. Anyone that can remember some of the names your input would be most welcome. The 15th FA Arty Regiment has compiled a pretty good list at http://www.landscaper.net/firebase.htm, but they generally seem to only go at far north as LZ Uplift and west. At the time the 173rd AOR was LZ English and north and west up to the II Region boundary.

I am looking for John Connelly. He was my best friend's Commanding Officer at Dak To, 1967. My friends name was Tracey Murrey and unfortunately he was killed on hill 875. If I an not mistaken John later became the Army Chief in the Joint Chief of Staff. Tracy received the DSC but after reading the citation it could have been the Medal of Honor. I really would like to visit with John about Tracy. Thank you, Ted Olzack

Mid-65, I befriended a Sky Soldier who had accompanied his buddy's body to Tan Son Nhut for a memorial service. I was USAF. Following the service, he became extremely distraught and had to be sedated by medics and transported to hospital. Later, the doctor told me he had completely lost it, and would be sent back to a mental facility in the States. Never heard more, and do not remember his name. It's along shot, but if anyone has any info, please pass it to me. He was a very good man, and I hope he made a complete recovery. My phone is 352-318-2428
