I work with the Defense Prisoner of War/Missing Personnel Office (DPMO) and would like to speak with members of B Company, 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry concerning one of your Vietnam losses. On 24 June 1965, PFC Van Campen was separated from the unit while on a patrol, then hit by sniper fire, and the unit was unable to recover his body at the time. We have several recovery teams in-country every year, and the more information we have helps us build a case to visit specific areas and pursue leads. Veteran interviews provide some of our best leads. Please call or email if you were on this patrol, or know anything about this loss.

HI,
I would just like to check on a Sky Soldier that my wife and I met one night in Virginia. He was there visiting his brother before being stationed with the 173rd. He had just transferred from the 25th Infantry in Hawaii and had served with one of the Wolfhound battalions. I had served in the Infantry with the 25th and the 82nd in Vietnam. He had an early flight so he left the bar and I wished him well. About 10 minutes later he tapped me on my shoulder and presented me with a large 25th Infantry medallion and thanked me for my service to the country. I gave him a hug and hoped my luck from Vietnam would rub off on him giving him a safe tour of duty. It really made me proud to be an American and to have served. He would know me as a Manchu. All I want to do is to wish him well and if he could drop me a line to let me know how he is doing.
Best Regards
Tom Flynn

I was a Doc with the 173rd in 68/69. Did time with D-16 Armor in Tuy Hoa, Troop E, 17th Cav at LZ English, 173rd Engineers in Bao Loc and some time at the HHC aid station on LZ English near Bong Son. I am wondering if anyone knows of a 173rd Airborne Motorcycle Club anywhere. I feel like I have been all alone for the past 42 years and think it would be fun to once again join up with my brothers who are probably the only ones who understand what we all went through at one time in our lives. Thanks.

Don't know of any Brigade clubs, but have a Brother in your area.

Stan Gillie Monday, 27 February 2012 14:55
I don't know of a club specifically made up of those from the Herd, but I belong to the Vietnam vets/Legacy Vets MC. We have a ton of Brothers from the 173rd, myself included.

I'm looking for the "spoons" from the Brigade mess hall at An Khe in 1967. I would like to thank them for saving Sgt Marvin Smart and I from being beaten to death by about a dozen 1st Cav guys. We were walking through their area about sundown when they saw our "Herd" patches and started beating and kicking us in retaliation for some artillery short rounds that had killed some of their buddies earlier that day. I was beaten unconscious so I never did find out what happened to Sgt Smart. After recovering, I heard it was some cooks from the mess hall that came to our rescue with their M-16s. I would very much like to thank those men after all these years.

Was with B/1/503 from 8/66-8/67.To the best of my memory i was in weapons squad of weapons platoon and was wounded around the 15th of June 1967 and verbally told by one of the platoon E-6's i'd be put in for a purple heart which i never received. All i've been so far able to get from NPRC is one medical record (a sheet) which says i was treated at the Herd battalion aid station but not what i was treated for. Some of the guys i remember from B/1/503 are Tucker,James Potter,Frank Ulissi,Dolphin,Sgt.Paul Cador,Sgt. Middleton,Sgt.Harvey Brewington(KIA),and Chuck Mears(KIA).Any
memories or recollections by anyone would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

There are MANY photos and Service Awards showing for 173rd over at www.fold3.com

Just do search for 173rd..then drill down...
But, not all are annotated yet, making look-ups by name difficult, so if you preview each, you can find some great finds.
