There is a guy on our Rants and Raves board out here that says he served in the 173rd from '66 to 68 (after initially saying he ETS'd after being wounded in '64). Name he gives is E F Martinez, anyone ever heard of him?

Good Morning; I'm putting together a surprise flag and shadow box for my brother in law- David Schrand of RI. My sister in law has loaned me his uniform so I can build the shadow box. I cannot find the silver backing with red border/stripes that goes behind the jump wings. Can anyone help? Also need the Blue and Silver ("The Rock") shoulder insignia (2) that go on the epaulets. Do I need to have the green backers that go underneath these insignia? David was a buck Sgt in VN..I am waiting to get his DD214 for th DTG of his svc in country. Anyone who knew David - I'd like to hear from you for background. Thank you for your service. Semper Fi - Hoby Harmon, Maj. USMC Retired.

Hoby

I don't know if you have found the things you mentioned to complete the shadow box but I have used www.MedalsofAmerica.com myself for numerous items. They have absolutely excellent products, as good as any BX/PX.
You will need to know which battalion he served with.
Good Luck

Directions to the Memorial?

I tried the Rand McNally site and Google Earth and neither can find 1775 Legacy Way, Columbus GA.

Can anyone give driving directions from Columbus?

Thanks

Steve Saturday, 15 May 2010 13:42
The memorial is right behind the new National Infantry Museum. From I 185 take Victory Drive West (HWY 27, 280 - Exit 1B). On that travel, about a mile or so (just past Ranger Joe's) to Fort Benning Road. Turn left (south / southwest). The museum is on the right - on google imagery, its looks like a large construction spot (as of today 15 May 2010), but you can't miss it and there are signs for the NIM.

I need help in locating Joe Esponisa. He served wiht E/2/503d Recon platoon. I believe it was the Wildcats out of LZ Uplift in 1970 until we were deactivated in 72. I remember he was from Austin, Texas and was living with his grandmother. If anyone knows his whereabouts please let me know. I can be reached via e-mail or home phone 303-955-4221, or cell 303-601-5889. Thanks to all and God Bless. See you at the re-union. Ariborne Joe Lucero

Lee Simpson Tuesday, 8 June 2010 06:56
If Joe served with the 2nd Bat/ 503d Inf. during 1970, he would have been at LZ English. Carl Lee Simpson E Co. (Recon) "Wildcats" 2/503rd Inf. Hope this helps.

Paul Stike, Jr Tuesday, 20 July 2010 15:58
E/2/503 was definitely at English then. Might try James Cheico. He seemed to know everyone from recon. He is retired now but maybe able to point you in the right direction. Good luck and God bless. Paul Stike, Jr
